Good Divorce Week is an annual awareness campaign run by Resolution, an organisation that represents Family Law professionals and helps couples find a better way to separate.
This year the focus is on their Code of Practice.
Dealing with separation and divorce is difficult. Emotions are high and even if two people agree, the changes can be overwhelming and stressful. Resolution believes the process of separating, sorting out finances and childcare can and should be done in a way that minimises conflict and keeps the best interests of any children at the heart.
Resolution’s Code of Practice sets out the principles of anon-confrontational approach to family matters, supporting our ethos and guiding how we work.
Why being a Resolution member matters?
Resolution members commit to a Code of Practice that promotes a constructive approach to family issues and considers the needs of the whole family, in particular the best interests of children. The Code isn’t just a set of ideals – it’s a practical, everyday guide for how we work with our peers, colleague and our clients:
1. We avoid inflammatory language
2. We support and encourage families to put the best interests of children first
3. We act with honesty, integrity and objectivity
4. We help clients consider the long-term emotional and financial impact of their decisions
5. We promote communication and collaboration wherever possible
6. We use experience and knowledge to guide clients through the options available to them
Perhaps understandably, many see divorce as highly acrimonious, riddled with conflict and bitterness, with a devastating impact on children The Code of Practice means Resolution members will support you to resolve matters as constructively and with as little conflict as possible. Every family deserves the chance to find a better way through separation – one that’s constructive, compassionate, and fair.
